wings 3d to blender - python script error |

Cannot import wings3d [.wings3d] file into Blender. While attempting to import into blender, an error message states -"python script error, check
console" - and the application, that is, blender exits. help appreciated.

IIRC, the Blender import script for Wings3d file format was abandoned long ago.
It never worked quite right, and there's not much you can make in Wings that isn't supported by the OBJ format. |

thanks for all the comments. completely ignorant with the obj import thing....downloaded a file from "ycarry" link...it looks like a python file..not
being able to open it ; how does the exporter work ...please help...

open your file in wings. make sure all the objects you want to import into blender are visible. in wings file menu select export - wavefront obj. in blender
use whatever the blender uses for importing obj's. There. Youre done.

the python ycarry mentioned is not totally needed(you could just in Blender go to file menu, Import, Wavefront obj). It just saves times later in blender not
having to recreate hard edges. Or making subdiv seams, in blender it's got some powerful thingy about the control over that. I'd use that plugin, tho.
It's a python plugin, yep, like all plugins in blender. in the wings part nothing hard to do: just export as obj as marcin explained. the plugin mentioned is for blender: open blender, open a text editor window (the one of Blender) , open there the python file, hit alt+p to run the script. That's it. It'll trigger a GUI or directly the file dialog. I am not sure as havent used that plugin yet. |

put the new python script in "C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts" (or where ever your blender scripts directory is... one
is created when you install blender).
The next time you start blender, in the File -> import menu you will have a new menu choice... "Wavefront Wings3D (.obj)" |

thanks for the suggestions....after experimenting with all import options in blender figured out that wavefront[.obj] does the import/export routine in a
flawless way...blender forum suggested vrml which does not seem to function...
wings 3d is much easier than blender in the realm of character modeling...so the import/export annoyance is definitely justified... once again the forum support is very much appreciated... |
