(06/26/03 01:36:13) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hi there, I recently discovered a link to the Manual 1.6.1 on www.elysiun.com (the Blender user-site) and downloaded the pdf-file. The design is wonderfull and the information gets better and better. I'm only wondering why this great manual is not mentioned on the wings3d homepage? I know it's a draft, but it would really rock for new users of wings. I've downloaded it from wings3d.com, so maybe I just missed the link to it? Anyway, I discovered some errors by browsing the manual. Is this the right place to show them? Tobur.

(06/26/03 22:31:59) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Allrighty, here we go then... * On Page 9 in the middle of the right side where it says: "A list of plugins available can be found in section 6: Plugins" it should be "section 7: Plugins" * The same page: The topics are scrambled. Starts with "1.1 Windows" and then comes "1.3 Solaris", "1.4 Mac" and after that "1.2 Linux". Should be rearranged. * Page 13: The images of the bars are all above the topics. I suggest that they should appear under the topic. * The "table of content" should be the "Overview of contents" and vice versa. I'm not sure if the placing of the "Overview of contents" on the end of the book is an american style, but I'm used to find the table of contents with pagenumbers in the beginning of the book. I think this makes it easier to find. * Page 117 "Rendering links": A nice open source RIB renderer to add here could be "Pixie". Have a look at Pixie-Homepage * Last but not least: I'm desperateley missing "Blender" on the links-page 117!!!!!!!!!!!! Take a look: Blender-Homepage

I'm a long time wings user now but many features/tweaks I haven't used because of lack of a manual. A quick scan of your manual blew me away - once for how many features wings has and then again for the amount of time and effort you must have put into the manual to help people like me. A very big thank you to you and your team.

(07/04/07 15:54:36) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	um . . . with the pdf, manual i downloaded - it says during the 'doghouse' excercise to highlight the panels and the floors to invert/intrude the model . . . while i was able to do this - the example picture showed the model being rotated along the y axis. the auto rotate camera only spins anticlowise along the xz axis - is there a way to like: rotate left, rotate right, up, down etc? cause the hotkeys and the manual don't seem to say - or is it cause i'm using the stable vesion of the wings 3D? (i'm very new to 3D stuff!) [apologies if this is in the wrong thread]

The default way to use the mouse is to hold the ALT key then use the left, right and middle mouse button to rotate your views. Check page 50 of user manual it explains the camera modes which is how the mouse controls your camera view

I tried to contact jmcalpin regarding the sources but he didnt answer. So, anyone has the source files or do I have to take the painful road of ripping the pdf's?

Thanks for the link Giniu, i forgot about the wings wiki. Maybe i will try and make it into some editable format (odf? doc? or .txt's linked into .indd file?) so users speaking other languages can translate it? Anyone would be interested?

(07/31/08 06:00:40) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Well, wiki version would be better, it's easier to search and navigate... also there are features on wikibooks to make a book into pdf I think, there are many books on wikibooks that do it - other than that Odt/Doc/Txt are far from being printable ... if you really mean to print you should use Adobe InDesign (cost a lot), Scribus (free one), also there are nice converters to my favourite - LaTeX... check http://nitens.org/taraborelli/latex to see why - oh, and it's one of very few to support Microtypography, can produce really nice results

(07/31/08 06:22:53) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	"if you really mean to print you should use Adobe InDesign" Well, its a lucky coincidence i work as a DTP specialist then Thats what i meant by txt files - txts that are linked into indesign file so the (potential) translator only updates the txt files and sends them back to me, and i compile the Pdf in InDesign. I will look into wikibooks pdf possibilities.

Besides im not really so hot on tex-like stuff, i really prefer wysiwyg software... I see the printable version is pretty usable (except for terrible layout :P ) so i think ill just rip it directly page by page and try to make some preliminary print layout.

(What You Get Is What You Want) and because of many many things I write I had to learn some about DTP also I cannot imagine working in wysiwyg

For myself i cant imagine working without actually seing the stuff i work on... As for browsable vs. printed - im a strong believer in printed manuals - i learned wings from manual 1.6.1, reading it in a tramway on my way to work :) First thing i check when learning a new soft is does it have a pdf manual?

(07/31/08 13:44:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	well, it's not browsable vs printed but rather browsable then printed, browsable wiki version is sweat for editing, you can edit today few lines and it's already published, can be discussed, errors are caught very early... and there is simple "pdf version" - I don't say you shouldn't play with pdf first, but I don't think much can be done with automatic conversion like it is on wiki... still as editing tool it's nice and it can be always rewritten later in nice looking way ... whichever way you choose, its great you want to - wings manual for sure will benefit from new pair of hands on it and some fresh air
