Sep 5 11 5:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It worked fine here, Optigon, and it is really very useful, but i miss a way to quickly turn off any Sculpt axis constraints. If you could implement a command like Sculpt \| Axis Constraints \| Clear Constraints (like there is already one similar to Tweak mode), then a single hotkey would be able to quickly turn off any sculpt constraint. Thanks for this your precious "little time".

Oct 10 11 6:27 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Had a moment so I added the Clear Constraints option and made a further addition which might be useful. I added the ability to smooth as you use any of the sculpt tools. For instance you can add smoothing while using the Pull/Push tool or the Pinch/Inflate tool. To do this, just press Shift while sculpting. There is a little note in the help line as a reminder.

I am still trying to use [Shift] in conjunction with Sculpt tools and definitely the results are similar to those ones i got if using Sculpt/Smooth. Am i doing something wrong here? (i'll try to rec a video showing the different results if using Shift+Sculpt tools and if just using Sculpt Smooth)

In the same way, 'recover' the mesh by smoothing it can become simple just by using the SHIFT modifier key. It's as I see this new option. As you use to hotkey each command, maybe you cannot to experience this.

Push + Smooth Pull + Smooth Inflate + Smooth Pinch + Smooth It keeps the sculpting a little more uniform.. or is meant to anyway. People might not notice unless they are looking for the difference, which is why I thought we might get rid of the original tools.

I was imagining [Shift] would give quick access to Sculpt/Smooth tool, without have to switch to this tool, as occurs in Pixologic Sculptris: just this. Same way [Ctrl] allows switch bettwen Sculpt/Push and Sculpt/Pull. This was the confusion about the use of term: the first thing i was expecting when i hold [Shift] was to be Smoothing the geometry, and not continue to sculpting, but producing more uniform results... << It keeps the sculpting a little more uniform >> Now i could understand (and experience) here. It is not the same of using Smooth: you continue using the current Sculpt tool, but really the result is more uniform. Wouldn it be better if [Shift] could be reserved to allow quick access to Sculpt/Smooth and another key (maybe Alt) could work to produce more Uniform results ("Equalize" results is the word that came to me now)? Thanks for the explanation: i could saw the difference between the pure Sculpt command and it use in conjunction to [Shift].

Oct 17 11 4:25 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just to add my 1.5¢, here's how I think it should work, (and how I thought it works in ZB & Sculptris ???) The Smooth tool has it own autonomous settings (brush, size, strength). The SHIFT+tool applies smoothing but retains the brush, size, & strength settings of the original ("non-shifted") tool. So my vote is to keep both but have their behavior as stated above... ??? (edti fro speeling)

I thought I should have explained the changes a little better -- but I'm glad it's a little clearer now Ran, you bring up an interesting point about Smooth possibly have its own settings. Now that you metion it, it would be better like this since the algorith for smooth uses the strength parameter diferently, and it was difficult to find a middle ground when sharing a single value between all the scultp tools. Currently, smoothing requires me to multipy the strength parameter by a factor of 10 to get the results you see in the tool today.. although the numbers are different with the blended Shifted tools.

Oct 18 11 5:33 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In other sculpting implementations that I use (Sculptris, Blender), Smooth is a separate tool. IIRC, Sculptris has an "SHFT+" option to: a) keep current tools brush,size,strength settings with SHFT+ or b) adopt the (global???) Smooth Tool's settings when using SHFT+ I prefer option a) as stated in my last post... but a setting to choose would not be a bad thing. If making Smooth a separate tool is problematic, perhaps a (1) toggle between local/global smooth settings when SHFT is pressed, similar to other Wings tools (magnet on/off, relative/abs slide, etc), but there would have to be some way to set the "global" smooth settings... Just thinkin' out loud... and I really don't have a dog in this hunt 'cause when I want to "sculpt", I go to another app. I use Wings to make meshes to sculpt from...

Oct 18 11 7:27 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Ran, i'm not sure if i understood correctly your point. Wings has Smooth as a separate tool, too (Sculpt/Smooth), like Sculptris. It would be very useful if [Shift] could be used to "quick" access to Smooth tool, but ever keeping the current tool brush, size, strengh, etc so that the user would be able to smooth the area he is working on keeping the "proportions" of the tool he is using at any moment. If for some reason he need to adjust any aspect of the brush (smooth larger/smaller areas, stronger/softer etc), then he will have to switch to Smooth command itself. As it happens in Sculptris. By comparision, same way he uses [Ctrl] to switch between Sculpt/Pull and Sculpt/Push, without alter any aspect of these tools. IMO, there is no sense in use [Shift] to adopt Smooth tool global settings: in these cases - repeating - user should switch to Sculpt/Smooth itself. About the current use of [Shift] (= "equalize" Sculpt tools results), i think this could be either the default state of any Sculpt tool or it should be associated to another combo (maybe [Alt]). Personally, i prefer to see any Sculpt tool producing the "equalized" (more regular) results that it is possible to get after this last Optigon addition.

I'm not a code head at all, but a frequent user, if it would be possible it would be nice to have the strength slider on some sort of shortcut ... alt+mouse wheel or whatever, because of how much difference there seems to be in how the different tools react. Push/pull I usually keep it down around 10, but using pinch or smooth I take it up to 50+ .... for now I have the Preferences window on a shortcut ....

When you RMB > Drag mouse to adjust the radius, you can also Scroll mouse to adjust the strength. Edit: maybe this info should be added to the information line??? Edit2: never mind, I see that it is there... I was so focused on the sculpt window I didn't see it in the real information line... I enjoyed your car making video you posted in another thread. Apr 1 12 6:05 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I know it's been a bit, but I have a request. How about a "Flatten Brush", one that will lock the normal from the initial mouse button press. Yes I know there's a flatten normal function outside of the Sculpt realm, but the drag effect of a brush might be oh so helpful!! Also, what about color painting? If we can affect vertices movement with "Brush", why not affect vertex color ? Yes, a model would have to be well subdivided to get any detail, but just a thought... Apr 3 12 6:31 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	optigon, Maybe a stupid question since I have no understanding of the code for wings objects... I noticed that the higher the poly count of the whole object, the more delay I see when using the Sculpt tool. Is there any way that polys that are not to be affected by the tool could be ignored. That way the high poly count of the whole object would not cause the delay I see. The face selection group of polys would change as you move over the object but the rest of the polys would be ignored. May not be possible but thought I would ask anyway... Thanks, oort
