Not a bug per se, but i do find the new behavior of extrude region somewhat counter-ergonomic - it doesnt allow a quick selection of a global/normal
extrusion axis. Workflow stopper in my book as i do most region extrusions by normal axis...

Maybe a new parameter or a new preferences option (if yes sorry in advance) but I can marquee select locked object vertices or edges
on Mac and PC.
Edit: when marquee select...

Also "not a bug", but Select Similar, already a rather slow routine on dense meshes has slowed an additional ~15% with the new selection code (or
arrays... not sure which caused it.)
I tested on a model with 140K+ faces. Selected 4 adjacent faces on one "pole" of a mesh w/ 8-way radial symmetry. Then hit "i". Then went on a world cruise, solved world hunger, discovered the unified field theory, built a 4th pyramid... well, OK, not quite THAT bad, but the result returned on 99.54a in 92 seconds. In the latest version it returned a result after 115 seconds. P4 HT 2.6GHz, 1Gb RAM

Ran13 wrote: It is neither the new selection code nor the arrays. Is there any noticeable difference in speed if you only select ONE face before pressing "i"? (If the answer is "no", I think I have found the reason for the slowdown and can probably fix it.) UPDATE: The reason for the slowdown was a change in a function (wings_face:fold/4) that now returns vertices in a different order. I have changed Select|Similar to perform better if the initial selection contains elements that are similar.

When in Vertex or Edge mode, relevant geometry of objects locked (via the geometry graph) can still be selected with a rectangular marquee selection, not
directly though. I'm not sure if it was already there in previous versions, as I've just noticed it while working with image ref. objects.

It seems this was already corrected at snapshot wings3d 1.1.4.1.6.g7558

Thanks, it works fine in the snapshot indeed.

Is there any noticeable difference in speed if you only select ONE face before pressing "i"? (If the answer is "no", I think I have found the reason for the slowdown and can probably fix it.) Using 1.1.2 & 1.1.4.1: 1.1.2 single face selection, same model - 23s 843985us Select|Similar 1.1.4.1 single face selection, same model - 26s 890900us Select|Similar As you can see, the command runs much quicker on a single face, but 1.1.2 is still ~ 12% slower. Same (2) versions, same model with (2) adjacent faces selected: 1.1.2 - 43s 546896us Select|Similar 1.1.4.1 - 47s 703900us Select|Similar - ~8% slower Same (2) versions, same model with (2) separated faces selected: 1.1.2 - 43s 952896us Select|Similar 1.1.4.1 - 48s 890900us Select|Similar - ~10% slower No too much different but an indication that something is headed in the wrong direction performance-wise, at least with respect to the Sel|Sim command.

Ran13,
Can you try the latest snapshot and see if there is any improvement? (You'll find the link in the Programming forum.) |

Times for latest snapshot:
(1) face - 17s 953900us (2) adj. faces - 32s 311900us (2) sep. faces - 32s 186900us GREAT! Also of note are the file loading times: 1.1.2 - 13s 1868895us 1.1.4 - 13s 249901us 1.1.4.8 snapshot - 13s 124899us so, loading is a wee-bit faster in the new snapshot as well. And, for me, this is a pretty big file by Wings standards: 140K+ face mesh default cube (2) point lights, and area light, and an ambient light I don't know about anyone else, but 11mb Wings files are not the norm for me. P.S. I'll also test the SG "culling" changes you did ASAP.

this isn't a standout bug but a major change in workflow.
The Tweak Magnet -Lost the ability to grow/shrink magnet using the keypad + and - (which is what i use to grow/shrink selection) -No updating when turning the magnet on/off while moving using keypad number 1 (try moving a vert in tweak mode, then turn the magnet on using the 1 on the left side, it automatically brings it neighbors into it, now try it with the keypad ) The reason why i really need these back is because im left-handed. It doesnt work in 1.1.2 either (and im guessing 1.1.3 and 4), but it does work in 1.1 |

yeah, in that if you don't have it on (in the 1.1) you cant use the magnet. Same with the current version.
So i guess it does its job properly. |

Disk Image Mounter says the 1.1.4 mac dmg is unrecognizable.
Can Some Wings Mac guy help me out here ??? I have OSX 10.4.11 installed. I used Disk Image Mounter to try and open. Please give me some hints. OK ... I had to use Copy Link Location rather than the link. This maybe seems like a website problem ????
