Then head here. http://www.cgroundup.com We discuss many things including Richard's background, the long term future of wings (OMG!), past and present issues, short term future, the state of open source development and much more. Plus i just wanted to say thanks Richard for doing the interview, it was really cool to hear a developer talking about a product that we all love to use. Optigon you just opened your first door to career with this interview At times though i thought it was more about blender than wings... Not that i have anything against blender (except the standard thing about the ghastly interface ) Certainly its a good thing. Wings needs all the publicity it can get. I would also disagree with the wings interface being bad - its actually the best interface i ever saw. Mainly because you can turn off all the icons and stuff and whoa - you have all the screen just for your model. no fancy icons, silly toolbars etc. Just you and your work - its a wonderful thing...

As well as scorpious and ggaliens. (06/28/09 09:34:36) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Purely amazing, though I did not yet listen through it all.... about users and difussion, count there's quite a bunch of us doing the word of mouth thing, and whats is better, showing with everyday's work, they just gotta pass near the screen and see things happening in time, and modeling projects ending in 1/5th of time expected... true that when ppl expecting it are non modeling people, their calculations/expectations can vary wildly ... right now am only just mentioning it everywhere when possible, as mostly now I work as corporate designer, but in the not far past, I did used for everything in game companies. yep, not the super big ones, but quite in a few... Most of 'em haven't even heard about it. Most kept sceptical after their first use, but got into after a second chance they gave it after seing me using it...ie, one day showing the power of ring selection, quickly combined with all wings selection power (very much agree with that said by someone (sorry, english is not my first language, so often don't distingish who is talking...)) , and other things by the time not present in any comercial tool, or not in the main used one... About seo, forums and stuff, yep, stuff could be done but imo, even for difussion, google and all other seo empowring factors, care mor efor what is offered, for quality stuff, so imo, the better Wings get to be, the difussion comes way easierly.... I realy get excited every time I hear about the works on hi poly count works under the surface... the interview sound quality was good here, and despite my barrier language I mostly could understand most of it... Kudos once again to Optigon, Bjorng, Scorpius, Dan, GinMajster and every developer in this, or who worked in this jewell... Last Edited By: extrudeface 06/28/09 09:39:36. Edited 1 times.

If you can, please send it to brad777mx (at) hotmaildotcom One other thing that would be interesting to know is optigon's current/recent employment. It was mentioned in the interview that he has an art education background, but Im curious what he does for work now and if he has been able to apply what he has learned about programming and 3D to his work. A philosopher with no programming background at all beeing able to do such great things as e.g. Sweep and much more, fascinating. But I also must mention Björn and Dan here, who made Wings available in the first place and really would like to have both interviewed. In the meantime I learned, that both are involved heavily in the Erlang language/virtual machine and believe, that Wings is sort of a "master piece of an unusual Erlang application". I'm very happy to see them back (though I came in here only, when optigon's work IMHO made them to continue, so I didn't miss them before ). But just have a look at the last snapshot of Wings and see, that Björn cleaned up some module really heavily, and made the code much more readable and added new features. And, you all know, Dan's wxErlang (a native UI for the OS at hand) made it into the official Erlang distribution! And there is work in progress to adapt that to Wings. Thanks also to all other code contributers (especially Scorpius, but also others I didn't spot yet). And a special thanks goes to PP for his excellent tutorials. Best regards
