There are no new features (except for developers), but it should slightly, slightly faster and require less memory for the edge table. As far as we know, everything should work, but if anything is broken we would like to know. External plug-ins (at least some external plug-ins) will not work with this version. Enjoy! /Björn - Added a new preference in the Misc tab to turn on a Develop menu containing various tools for the Wings developers. [bjorng] - Added a command to the new Develop menu to automatically time all executed commands. The command name and time will be printed to the console. [bjorng] - Added a command to the new Develop menu to automatically print out information about the undo queue. [bjorng] - The data structure for the edge table has been changed. The new data structure is faster and uses less memory. Approximately 4 words (1 word = 4 bytes) per edge is saved. Plug-ins that depend on the edge table being a gb_tree will not work. Not that I really need polies performance boost for my actual projects, but be able -I tested in some project that I can deal perfectly with it, workflow wise- to do close to Zb level of detail just with wings is totally exciting..! (subdiv technique, just crazily detailed, can be done with thousands of polies) Edit: I know...slightly. I know it means not noticeable, and that probabl wont do much efect, probably not even in a distant future. If you dev team allow me, i would like to know about an old theme: Wings3D major rewrite. Some answers had already be done four years ago (4/12/2005), but many many things changed that reality, specially Optigon work. So i would like to actualize that post, where Bjorng, Dgud and GinMajster give us some important informations. Looks like we have a huge speed increase. Unfortunately I coundnt sub-D past 100k, I dont know if its my machine or it just cant sub-D that high.

Major rewrites (starting from scratch) seldom gets finished. Regarding our plans, I prefer to implement first and talk later. But I can reveal that in 1.1.1 the vertex tables will be arrays instead gb_trees, which will save some more memory and could mean another slight speed-up. Dan has also rewritten how edges and vertices are displayed, which should be slightly faster (and still be compatible with all OpenGL drivers, we hope).

If you use Windows, I think that a single application can only use up to 2 Gb.

Supposedly some people are using it for graphics apps and not the music stuff it was originally intended for. No idea how well it would work with Erlang/Wings (if at all), but it may merit some investigation. This PDF explains what Large Address Aware (LAA) means, and how an app can access the full 4GB of memory available to it on x64 h/w with a 64bit OS, or 3gb on a 32-bot machine/OS. http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/cont..._4GT-_6204.pdf This does NOT require the app to be multi-threaded, or be re-written except to conform to "good programming practices", like never assuming a pointer is null or < 2gb, or using the 32nd bit of the address space for something different than for which it was designed. However, if either Wings3D or werl violates these "rules", LAA bit switching, will just make the app unstable when/if it tries to use memory > 2gb. If this flag is not set, the 32-bit application receives 2 GB virtual address space.
